Milano University Press was conceived as an open-access publishing house that would provide a platform for, and disseminate, research findings produced both within the University of Milan (with its strong multi-disciplinary bent) and in the broader academic community.
The decision to open access to these publications was intended to ensure the broadest possible dissemination of scientific findings, as well as to provide visibility to the work of a talented pool of researchers.
Likewise available through open access are those journals published on a platform launched in 2008 to feature the University's online academic journals. With over 50 publications currently available, the platform was inarguably the starting block for Milano University Press.
Milano University Press publishes books by researchers at the University of Milan in an open-access and print-on-demand format.
Books are published according to internationally recognised quality criteria and standards, and are listed in the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB), and in both general and specialised databases.
Each series of books is independent, and features its own scientific advisory board. Proposals for books falling outside of an established series are evaluated by an ad-hoc advisory board.
